Can wearing a retainer shift teeth back? (photo)

Question

I have taken off my braces after 2 years and happy but the doctor said come snd take you're retainer after a 1-2 weeks but it has been 27 days and i didnt go because -a private purpose now my teeth have shifted a bit can getting a retainer next 2 days fix this gap? And if not what can the doctor do?

If you take impressions NOW to get a retainer, it will keep teeth in the position they are currently in.  If impressions were taken right when the brackets came off, you might be able to get the teeth to go back if they haven't moved THAT much.  An Inman Aligner might help.

Retainers provide your tissues and teeth time to adjust to their new positions after orthodontic treatment has been completed.  Active retainers can close spaces only if the teeth have shifted very minimally after treatment. You would need to wear your retainers day and night until the space is closed and then continue wearing them every night to keep the space closed.  If your teeth have moved considerably, you can go for a short re-treatment, if it is needed.
