I had the Eclipse kit PRP face injections a few weeks ago. I asked th LPN what the concentration level was, she said she had no idea. 2 questions. What is the concentration of the Eclipse single spin, and what concentration level does PRP need to be effective?
Answer: PRP concentrations The Eclipse PRP system is a good very easy to use system. However, with a single or even with a double spin it doesn't deliver near the high 7X concentration I personally seek and obtain with my Emcyte system. The Eclipse system obviously has efficacy. However, the higher the concentration the greater the efficacy. Warmly, Arbella Sarkis, MD

Answer: What concentration is optimal for PRP? The optimal concentration of PRP should be 1.5 million platelets per cc which is about 6X the normal platelet concentration. I use the Genius and Magellan systems which require 60cc to get 6-8cc of this high concentration PRP. The Eclipse system has 10 and 20cc vials. It yields about 4-8cc's. As you can probably tell, the concentration is about 2.5-2.7x. What this system essentially does is give you serum (red blood cells removed). The company doesn't deny this but states higher concentrations aren't needed. I do know that more treatments are needed for the hair treatments if lower concentrations are needed. The popularity of Eclipse is its low cost to start up. I don't think providers are aware of the importance of concentration of PRP. By the way, I recently used a platelet counter before and after the Genius system and found it to be exactly 1.5 million/cc and about 7.4X. There is some literature to suggest that too concentrated is detrimental because there is too much inflammation. There is much to learn about PRP and more studies are needed.

Answer: PRP concentration Excellent question! In general it is accepted that PRP should be at minimum 1.5x the concentration of whole blood. That being said, the greater the concentration, the better you would think the results could be. I use the Eclipse system in my office we have actually tested our blood to see what the numbers look like. In general we average about 2x with a single spin. This can vary of course but that is the average we see. I commend you for asking this question because it really is the difference in whether you not you are actually getting "prp" and many people don't know to ask. Also most practitioners do not take the time to investigate this, but it is of utmost importance.
