Can dental implants be placed in a small tight space and still look nice?

When you are consulting with an implant surgeon, they will look at height of bone available, width and quality. What looks like a small space to your eye may be fine. X-rays are necessary to evaluate the bone and a restorative or cosmetic dentist must also consult with you to determine what the final crowns will look like. We have a team in our practice who looks at both surgical and restorative at the same time to avoid an average cosmetic or surgical result. 

It should be possible to place implants in this site. You can also have one implant placed with two crowns. This requires the implant to be placed a little deeper that normal and then a custom abutment is made that comes our of the implant and splits into two posts to cement the crowns onto. 

Basically there are limitations to the width of the space needed for an implant.  First we must consider the width of the natural tooth being replaced.  Is it too narrow or too wide?  This will result when too narrow in too narrow a tooth..if too wide you will either have a space or too fat a tooth.  Lastly for surgical purposes there is a distance between the adjacent teeth that as a minimum must not be compromised.  As a safe minimum the distance of the space between the roots of the adjacent teeth should be 5mm or more ( leaving 1.5 mm between the implant and the adjacent teeth for a 2mm thin implant..however .for a standard 3mm or 3.5mm the distance should be 6 or 6.5.mm)  Any experienced implant dentist can advise you of the choices.  Don't rule out orthodontic movement to shift teeth and create the space needed for the appropriate implant

The basic answer is yes. Now, obviously without the benefit of x-rays or knowing really how small the space it, we can usually place and restore implants in as little as 14 - 20 mm. for two implants. Lower incisors are normally small teeth and replacing them should not be an issue. Addiotionally, if the implant is sufficiently long and the surgeon feels the bone is adequate, sometimes you can place just one implant and have it anchor two teeth.Hope this helps.
