Can I mix tretinoin with sunscreen?

Question

Can tretinoin be mixed with sunscreen so it can be worn throughout the day and like that i wont have to apply at night before bedtime? Is tretinoin more potent than loreal otc anti wrinkle products? Would a dermatologist happen to know? Thank you.

Thanks for your question.  I would not recommend using tretinoin during day, mixed with sunscreen or not.   Sunlight tends to make the retinoids ineffective, that's why they are to be applied at night only.  Prescription tretinoin in any of its three strengths is stronger than over the counter products and is more concentrated without having a lot of other ingredients in the medication. No. Do not use Tretinoin during the day. It is appropriate for evening use only. And yes, Tretinoin is much stronger than OTC products such as Loreal. Begin with a lower strength and ease into a stronger version after finishing the first tube. Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen daily and especially when treating with Tretinoin.

Thank you for your question. Tretinoin is photosensitive and reacts with sunlight, therefore, applying the medication at bedtime is recommended. Tretinoin is prescription strength retinoid whereas anything over the counter is not as strong. I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist regarding any further questions.
