The long and the short is that smoking will increase the chance of implant failure. This should have been explained to you prior to the procedure. You have invested a lot of money in yourself for dental implants, do everything in your power to help it have a successful healing process
We recommend no smoking at all as it increases risk of failure or promotes poor healing. The effect of smoking after completion of healing and restoration of the implant is probably less detrimental however it's best to cease completely for long term oral health. Definitely with your oral surgeon first, but I would suggest either warm saltwater rinses, a solution of Chlorhexidine 0.12% rinse (aka Peridex) or a combination of. Your surgeon should have given you written post-op instructions, or he/she may have them on their website....
