Question

I'm borned woth thin gum and bones, per periorthodontist. Orthodontist said braces would increase risk of losing teeth in 5-10 years. Periodontist agreed, but also said braces has long term benefit cuz my teeth will be aligned. No treatment is needed cuz I have healthy gum. Should I get braces or leave my teeth alone? lf I lost all bones and subsequently lost all teeth can I still have some/full implants? I thought implants require bones. What are my options? Thank you.

Periodontal disease is never cured, only controlled/maintained (you state 50% bone loss, which means periodontal disease by definition).  While there may not be any puffy or bleeding gums, you cannot be categorized as healthy, just controlled.  As such, I believe the benefits to straight teeth are enough to pursue and think braces are a good choice.  As long as you see your periodontist as often as they suggest, you can minimize the risk of losing teeth.  There is still a CHANCE, so proceed cautiously.

HI, thanks for sending your question. I believe that since your periodontal condition is well controlled you should consider orthodontic which would have multiple benefits. First, repositioning your teeth in will improve the longevity of your teeth, since it would be more easier to keep clean and have less food trap areas. Furthermore by aligning the teeth the bite will be more secure and help in stabilizing the teeth.  I would seriously consider alignment of your teeth with clear aligners which will have multiple advantages vs traditional braces in your situation.  By eliminating brackets and metals your hygiene will be optimal because it is much easier to brush and floss. Furthermore since the movements are strategically placed using computer animation we are more in control of the forces being applied and increase the chance of more stable orthodontics.
