The spa I go to didn’t give me an answer and just told me it’s not good?...

Some antibiotics increase sun sensitivity, which will increase the risk of sunburn. Diode, alexandrite and yag lasers work best for hair removal. I typically have patients do every 4 weeks for the first 3 times and then every 4-6 weeks for 3 times after. It will take a series of treatments and some people need treatments to maintain. See an expert in laser hair removal for best results. Best, Dr. Emer

They are probably concerned about certain antibiotics causing your skin to have increased sensitivity to sunlight (and the laser light).

Thank you for your question ,It is not recommended to take antibiotics while participating in laser hair removal. Some antibiotics can cause sensativity which can affect your laser treatment.

Most antibiotics make the skin sensitive to heat which can cause a burn with a laser.  Its best to be out of the sun 3-4 weeks prior to having laser hair removal.

Antibiotics like minocycline make you more sensitive to the sun. Having a laser hair removal treatment while on antibiotics can increase your chances of getting a burn.
