Does the outcome of my reduction appear to be odd? (Photo)

Question

I am exactly one week post op from surgery. I understand that there is major swelling the first few weeks of surgery but I am extremely worried about my right breast. Both sides seem to have excesss tissue in the sideboob area but the right looks especially swollen. Any advice?

Hello,Your selfie photos are completely unhelpful for evaluation of your breasts. This is due to optical defects that create photographic distortions. Discuss with your surgeon, get a second opinion in person, or re-post with a second person using a purpose built digital camera standing a minimum of 10 feet away from the lens.

I don't see anything that looks odd in the photos.  You are very early in the post-op period.  The breasts will change over the next several months.

Based on the images provided and assuming both breasts are soft and symmetric, everything looks as expected early in the course of breast reduction recovery.  There are two opposing forces at hand for this procedure:  tightening the skin envelope while preserving an appropriate amount of breast volume suitable to your frame.  For the first several months after Wise pattern skin resection, the lower pole of the breast is designed to appear flatter with a full upper breast pole (think upside down breast).  This will round out with time due to gravity effects giving a more natural breast appearance.  The lateral breast fullness typically is due to the remaining breast tissue falling off to the side where most of the breast tissue was likely removed.  This evens out over several weeks and swelling will subside as well. Of course, have your surgeon evaluate you in person to ensure that the fullness on the side is not a small seroma (fluid collection).

ODD is exactly how things look one week after a breast reduction. There is usually swelling greater on one side than the other, the nipples appear pointing down because the breast tissue will "bottom out" in time (3 months).
