I am 4 years out from my lap band surgery. I started working with a fitness trainer. I had a cramp in my side Tuesday and Wednesday I noticed a huge purple bruise (about the size of my hand) 3 inches bellow my port on my belly. I am eating fine and only sore due to recent increase of physical activity. I was doing boxing punches and twists as my exercise. I am vitamin D deficient.

The band port is sutured to the abdominal muscle.  With aggressive abdominal exercise and twisting you can pull on one of these sutures.  This can cause pain and a bit of bleeding which is why you have a bruise.  You do not need to do anything at this time.  Some times the port can flip completely making adjustment difficult or impossible to do.  if this happens, then the port may need to be re positioned.  This is not a big surgery and can be done in the office if your surgeon has the right set up.  Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most common vitamin deficiency in the USA.  Does not matter whether you had surgery or not.  Take a vitamin D3 daily.  I personally take 5000IU of vitamin D3 daily.
