Is there a danger to the baby if I have taken Propecia?

She has not handled the medicine or taken it. My wife has been pregnant for 16 weeks. I was on propecia and we had sex during this time.

The risks are extremely small that there would be an issue. Years ago, female pharmacists were not allowed to handle the medication over fear of birth defects. Now, it is recognized that the fear was overblown. There is a risk that your semen could contain propecia in it, but I have not seen a study that actually demonstrates this. Buying the 1mg tablets as opposed to splitting the 5mg tablets would be safer to minimize finasteride dust. To be safest, you may wish to stop taking Propecia for now until the baby is delivered. Again, there has not been a study as far as I am aware to say that it is unsafe.

There is no danger to your baby if you had sex with your pregnant wife. Millions of men have been on this drug in situations similar with you and there has never been a report of a problem caused by this drug when taken by the male
