I am 3 weeks post op tummy tuck. I've been using my incentive spirometer as prescribed for 3 weeks now. Treatment instructions?

(10xan hour) My question is, with no complications, how long should I continue to use the spirometer? I'm breathing fine, not having trouble taking deep breaths, except first thing in the morning.

Dear E,    Congratulation on your  smooth recovery from tummy tuck surgery. In my practice, patients are using the incentive spirometry only for the first 2-3 days after surgery, while they are taking the strong narcotic pain medication. Once the pain subsides, patients are able to take deep breath without the assistance of the incentive spirometer.    Obviously, you should discuss with your surgeon any issue concerning your post operative instruction.                          All the best,                                         Dr Widder

In most cases, the inventive spirometer can be stopped after a few days but best to ask your plastic surgeon.
