Can I have a gastric sleeve while I'm breastfeeding?

I have a five-month-old son I would like to get the gastric sleeve I believe I qualify. However I am still nursing and I was wondering if I would be able to do both or if I have to wait until I am done nursing

Women that are still breast feeding can get surgery.  There are certain medicines that may be given to you that cross into the breast milk and others do not.  You need to consult with your bariatric surgeon and the anesthesiologist.  Another option is to pump and freeze some of the milk before your surgery and use that stored milk instead until it is safe to breast feed again.

Chances are you will have to wait a few months, and by then you may be done breast feeding . However, the surgery will interrupt your breast feeding, and the post operative pain medication will go through to your breast - so it may be a time when you will want to use formula.
