My teeth became very sensitive after attachment removal. Did my doctor overshave my tooth? What should I do?

Hi, i just finished my mid course adjustment for the invisalign, my doctor shaved off the old attachments and put on the new ones, however one tooth become very sensitive to cold and heat, even when i touch it there's a small hole, did my doctor over shaved my tooth? what should i do????

If a tooth becomes sensitive after Invisalign attachment removal, there is a possibility that the dentin portion of the tooth may have become exposed. Also, the rebonding of a new attachment with the etching gel (which roughens the enamel tomake the attachment composite resin adhere properly) can also cause some reversible pulpitis (reversible nerve pain) which will manifest as some "thermal cold/hot sensitivity." Regardless of this, you should return to your dentist to evaluate and treat this sensitivity. This can merely be done by the application of a densensitizing varnish. A dental laser can also be used to densensitize a tooth. He/she may also prescribe a desensitizing paste or gel that can be used for a short period until your sensitivity subsides. If a small defect exists on the enamel, he/she may need to repair this and cover the enamel with additional composite resin. Finally, you should take some ibuprofen (Advil) which had an antiinflammatory effect and can calm things down as well.
