How much swelling is normal after capsulectomy/strattice and for how long?

Smooth/submuscular/silicone implants. Had a capsulectomy with strattice placed to correct capsular contracture about 8 weeks ago in right breast. Had drain for 3 days afterwards. While the implant has dropped some, it appears nearly as large, swollen, and firm as it did when the drain came out. How much swelling is normal with strattice and for how long? Could this be a small seroma? Or could a new thick capsule already be formed? My breast stayed larger & firmer during the first cc as well...

Thanks for your question. The usage of acellular dermal matrices (ADMS) like Strattice in breast surgery is a wonderful tool. Drains are absolutely necessary and the body can produce some fluid during the healing process and off loading the fluid is necessary for incorporation of the ADM. My recommendation is to return to your surgeon for an examination and if there is a significant fluid collection removal of it may be necessary. Best of luck!

Without in person examination or even posted photos, can not offer much but to seek in person paid second opinions from other boarded PSs. In my experience mesh repair as swelling, postop fluid issues that usually require drain system for weeks. Also the chance of biofilm issues is very possible.
