Will not using my prescribed eyedrops after LASIK affect the healing process and will my vision be unclear forever?

If your vision is shattered you need to see your doctor.Inflammation in the flap interface is a worrisome issue at this point with that story. Dryness can be problematic. But don't ask us....see the surgeon now or you could pay a very high price later in terms of vision loss or need for more surgery.

Not taking the prescribed medication CAN affect your healing after LASIK. Most likely the situation is manageable but please see your surgeon about your symptoms right away and take all prescribed medications in the future.

The drops commonly used after Lasik include a steroid, an antibiotic, and artificial tears. These drops help prevent infection and help to improve healing. The visual outcome of Lasik is partially based on healing. The more normal the healing the better the outcome. Therefore not taking the drops as prescribed can put you at risk of infection and can affect your final (permanent) vision. Often the vision can be refined with an enhancement later but best to take your drops as prescribed to help avoid an enhancement. Insomnia tends to worsen dry eye and therefore lubricating drops, gels, and ointments are more necessary.

Since you are two weeks past LASIK, it's highly unlikely that you have developed an infection or inflammation, so the most likely cause of decreased vision is dryness, which is normal in the early course after LASIK, however made much worse by not using lubricating drops and then compounded by spending a lot of time staring at a computer.Fortunately, by re-starting your drops on a regular basis and by taking frequent breaks from computer use, your vision should return to normal. Moral: use your drops, as prescribed -- there's a reason for it!
