Is spironolactone to blame for my weight gain?

I have been taking spironolactone for about 8 months now and have noticed some weightgain. Read the side effects of spiro and it doesn't say anything about weight gain being a side effect, however I have noticed others saying they gained weight while taking it. Is it possible spiro could be causing my weight gain?

Hello and thank you for your question. Spironolactone does not typically cause weight gain. If you take other medications, you may need to check the side effects of those, as well as medication interactions that may cause weight gain. I recommend a consultation by your board certified general practitioner or dermatologist for evaluation of your symptoms and discussion of appropriate treatment.
