Dutasteride every other day is better than Propecias for hairloss?

Question

Is it true that one Avodart every other day is more effective in reducing DHT than Propecia, since it blocks like 90x more of the same type of DHT than Propicia and in addition it also blocks the other type. I was told this because of the long half life of Dutas.

The use of Dustaride for managing hair
loss is considered to be an off label application, as you may already know. This
means that it has not been FDA approved for hair restoration purposes. However,
doctors are allowed to use their discretion when prescribing it for this
particular usage.

It is mainly intended for a condition
known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).

While there is some research to support
better performance of Dutasteride compared to Propecia, this is not entirely
yet confirmed.

It is important for patients to be aware
that DHT is just one factor involved in pattern baldness. Different individuals
may be affected by other variables like environmental causes, prostaglandins
and sun exposure.

Also,
earlier stages of hair loss are more likely to benefit from medication compared
to later stages.

Dutasteride when taken daily reduces DHT levels more than finasteride. Studies comparing "every other day" directly with finasteride have not been adequately assessed to date. It is important to have a discussion with you physician about dutasteride as many studies (but not all) have shown more side effects (including sexual) with dutasteride. Dutasteride is NOT FDA approved for hair loss. Finasteride is FDA approved for hair loss. Dutasteride is, however, approved for treating hair loss in Korea.

Yes, it is possible that dutasteride 0.5 mgs taken every other day may be more effective than finasteride 1mg taken every day, but there is no direct evidence that this is the case.
