Is this a broken teeth or tartar buildup (calculus) which has broken? (photo)

I was just brushing and it suddenly came off. I didn't feel any pain or anything .I still don't feel any pain and I know I am not the best at hygiene but my teeth have never troubled me before. If it indeed is a broken tooth I'll book an appointment with the dentist. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
