Can I take anti-androgenic contraceptive pills and minoxidil 5% to treat my androgenic alopecia?

I am 28 female, suffering from AA for 14 years, diagnosed for 4 years. I have been taking contraceptive pills to block it since then. Minoxidil was recommended to me by my doctors as well however I did not want to take it at first. Since my condition is getting worse (type 2 in Ludwig scale), I am considering the minoxidil treatment. Is minoxidil recommended for women who did not have children yet? What shall I do when I want to have kids in future (stop minoxidil, which will cause hair fall again?)

Hello, there are many treatments for androgenic alopecia. Women are currently not FDA approved for the use of the ARTAS.  However, our use of the ARTAS does suggest that women who are experiencing androgenic alopecia may be good candidates.  As always, women should have a thorough workup including the following:
Trichoscopy- identify type of hair loss Extensive history and labs- rule out other forms of hair lossWe use ARTAS with regenerative techniques with women such as PRP and growth factors to help improve overall results.

Treatments for androgenetic alopecia include: minxodil, oral contraceptives with anti-androgens, low level laser and platelet rich plasma. Yes, most treatments need to be stopped in pregnancy. The hormonal changes in pregnancy will support strong hair growth for most women and treatments can be resumed after delivery. Minoxidil can be used by women who do not yet have children. It must never be used during pregnancy.
