I'm getting 4 bicuspid removed, will it ruin my face? (photos)

I already don't have a full smile because my teeth aren't straight. From what I see and feel inside my mouth, I really don't think I have room. I hope the extractions won't ruin my face.

I have posted numerous replies to this same question because it's one of the most common orthodontic questions. Bottom line is that RARELY is it necessary to extract bicuspid teeth in order to straighten teeth. Extracting bicuspids will not only compromise your facial aesthetics but can potentially seriously compromise your airway and TMJ. If you can have your teeth straightened without extracting bicuspid teeth (which almost everyone can) why would anyone remove bicuspids?Find a doctor who can confidently and convincingly answer these three questions: 1. What are the consequences of bicuspid extraction orthodontics on my facial aesthetics, including my profile? 2. What are the potential consequences of bicuspid extraction orthodontics on my TMJ? 3. What are the potential consequences of bicuspid extraction orthodontics on the volume of my airway?If a doctor can't confidently and convincingly answer these three questions then you need to go find another doctor. Good luck!

Hi...although the photos are not enough information for me to make a final recommendation, I'd highly recommend that you avoid bicuspid extractions altogether!  Many orthodontists still recommend this option because it may appear to be easier for them to straighten your teeth by creating more room for the remaining teeth to be straight.  The problem, however, is creation of EXCESS space that then must be closed by retracting your remaining teeth.  This can often create a less esthetic facial profile and appearance...and the angles of the teeth can result in an uncomfortable bite.I'd highly recommend that you find an orthodontist who can align your teeth without extractions.  Some light smoothing of enamel between the teeth may be necessary, but at least you'll be keeping your teeth.  And, a "big pretty smile" is much better than a "retracted, straight smile"!
