Tretinoin for clogged pores. 5th day (Photo)

Question

Hi, i'm using tretinoin .05% prescribed by my doctor and at the same time benzOyl peroxide facial wash. I have some clogged pores around my jaw and neck that's why my derma told me to use tretinoin every day but today is my 5th day and i'm experiencing redness, itchiness, red patches and red bumps. Is this normal? should i stop the bp and continue the tretinoin? I'm scared that If I stop the tretition, it might take so long for it to work. I have this clogged pores for a yr. i'm so sick of it. Pls help

Irritation from topical retinoids is normal when you first start using the product. That being said, there are things you can do to minimize these side effects. Wait 10-15 minutes after washing before applying your tretinoin, use only a pea-sized amount, and perhaps try using the product every other night while your skin acclimates to the product. You can slowly build up to every night as tolerated. You may also want to include a good non-comedogenic moisturizer as well. Remember that these products take time to work and you may not start seeing results for 2-3 months. Good luck!

I agree that you need a gentle retinoid like Replenish (see link below for Retinoids 101) as well as a non comedogenic opti-ceramide cream called ElevaseBestH Karamanoukian MD FACS
