Discoloration of nipple. Is this normal or possibly the onset of necrosis? (photo)

Hoping to get some insight before my appointment but I will also contact my ps. I am 7 days post op from a breast reduction. I just noticed some yellowing of the areola and paleness of pigmentation. Had bruising post op but turned yellow 3-4 after and PS said nothing about any complications during appointment. I have sensation and the nipple itself appears pink/red when touched. I do not smoke/ no discharge or bleeding since operation day.

I would see a plastic surgeon to see if the procedure can be covered through your insurance. If you do not have insurance, you would need to pay for the procedure whether a resident did the surgery or not (as they still need to be supervised by plastic surgeon).Good luck, Dr. Luong

Thank you for your question.  However, if you are having a problem just a few day following surgery, you should not be seeking a resolution on-line.  You should call your surgeon so you can be appropriately evaluated.  Best wishes!
