Umbilical hernia repair with mesh 4 weeks ago. For the last 1.5 weeks I've felt a lump in the same place as before. Recurrence?

Thank you for your question. I am sorry to read about the new lump and your frustration with not feeling your concern was appropriately addressed. 
Recurrence of umbilical hernias after surgery do occur. While it is not possible to diagnose an umbilical hernia without a physical exam, your symptoms can signal recurrence of the hernia. Evaluation by your surgeon (or a perhaps a new one), will help diagnose the cause of the lump. 
Some patients chose not to repair umbilical hernias if they do not cause significant pain or discomfort. Symptoms that should be seen emergently include pain and tenderness over the area, discoloration of the overlying skin, or nausea and vomiting. These symptoms can occur when abdominal tissue becomes trapped and cannot be pushed back in, eventually cutting off the blood supply to the tissue.
