What is most likely going on is that you have a weakness/lengthening of the ligament on that side of the thumb joint. There are procedures to correct this and most likely insurance will cover this. Make sure you go to someone who specializes in hand surgery. Look for someone who is a member of either the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) or the American Association for Hand Surgery (AASH). Good luck.
