While laser hair removal can be performed on virtually any skin color and hair type, hair color is the most important factor. The light emitted from the laser is attracted to the melanin, or dark pigment, in the hair follicle. This means that dark hair is treated most effectively. Treatments performed on red, blonde, and gray hair are not generally as effective.

Unfortunately lighter color hair (blond, grey) will not absorb enough of the laser light to be effective.One new device - only approved for now for armpits is #miraSmooth which uses microwave energy and is "color blind" and treats ALL hair color types

Q: Will #LaserHairRemoval work for coarse blonde hair? A: It depends on how light or dark your hair is. In our practice, we see blondes with darker blonde hair have success with laser hair removal, while super light blondes may not have as good of a result. If you are worried about whether or not you are wasting your money, see a laser technician who is experienced enough to give you an honest evaluation.

Most laser hair reduction devices target pigment/color.  The pigmented hairs/follicles absorb the light (because of their pigment), can't tolerate the energy, and the follicle dies.  Blonde or brown hair is almost pigment-less and therefor can't absorb the light from the laser.  Unfortunately, this is true of most laser hair devices.  I would consider electrolysis.

At this time the LightSheer doesn't work for light hair color.  It only attracts to the darker pigmented hairs.
