4 days post Vi Peel, does the peel make skin darker at first and then lighten as time goes by?

Darkening could be the dry skin and it may lift, but it can also be post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation which needs to be treated soon to make sure it does not become worse. I would follow-up with your provider and have them take a look to see what the darkening is as they saw you before the procedure. Best of luck.

It is not unusual after a VI Peel to see darkening of the skin as the pigment lifts and the skin dries out. It is important to follow the post procedure instructions to get the best results.

Keep the area moist, avoid the sun, and avoid any abrasive products or trauma to the area.  Some patients will have a second layer of peeling after a chemical peel within the first 3-4 days.  Redness, dryness, irritation, itching, burning, can be common after a peel, especially a medium depth peel like the VI.  However, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation is an unwanted side effect from the peel and requires medical attention.  It is more common in patients with darker skin type.  Often times, it can be treated with topical medications or light therapies, such as IPL, and completely resolves.  Follow up with your provider as soon as possible for an evaluation and recommendations.  Best of luck.

Hello and thank you for your question.Yes, what you are experiencing is very common. After the initial peeling, you can go through the dryness and additional flaking. The skin should lighten as it heals. In some skin types lightening products may be recommended. I would recommend following up with your provider to determine if post care products should be started.Best to you,
