Should I be concerned about lack of results 6 months after hair transplant?

Question

Hello I have no hair growth (none) 6 months (yesterday) post op second procedure. First one was 10 years ago. I know it takes a full year or longer for final results as I have been down this road before. Last time however had some growth at six months. Top 5 doctor in Canada, 25 years in business, he has done more that 15,000 FUT. I followed post op to a letter. No infections. Im on Ducasteride and Loniten. How concerned should I be? The post hair transplant process varies from person to person, and it can take 14 to 18 months for the process to be fully completed.

Since you mentioned that the doctor who performed your operation is highly experienced, there is no need to worry too much; results tend to take longer to appear, especially with transplants in the crown area.

Staying in touch with the doctor who performed your surgery will be sufficient.

It’s a bit concerning but still possible that things are simply delayed. I think you said it best that your prior surgery experience is somewhat of a template for how your second surgery should go. There are many reasons for poor hair growth post transplant. You mentioned your surgeon who seems quite experienced but there are many patient factors that are not discussed here. Subtle scarring alopecias or autoimmune scalp issues developing after surgery do occur and some people find that COVID infections during this time can sometimes complicate the picture. It’s worth a visit to the surgeon but most surgeons will not intervene quite yet (at 6 months) unless there is an obvious inflammatory condition that has set in. If poor growth persists then a biopsy may be needed. Be sure to keep close follow up with your doctor.

New hair at transplant area start to grow at 3-4 th month after surgery and continues until the 6th month. But the hair that grows within 6 months becomes dull, thin and weak. It may take 8-13 months for the hair to take its full form and regain its original thickness and full  donor site character.  ıf  you  dont  have  nay  regrowth  after 6  months  either  inform your  doc  or  choose  another  one  for  3 th  session  .
