Should I have an apicoectomy or implant?

Question

One of my 2 front teeth has had root canal many years ago. The tooth is now gradually lengthening and I was told if I did not have a apicoectomy I would eventually lose the tooth. My alternate option is an extraction and implant.

Unfortunately without seeing your X rays and knowing the extent of infection it is hard to give you an opinion. Both options are fairly predictable and could work well.I would recommend taking a second opinion and then deciding on future treatment plans.Best of Luck!

It depends on many factors. The gums around the tooth have to be healthy.  The length of the tooth. The size of the lesion, etc.my suggestion for you is to be seen by another specialist for a second consult.

If the root canal did not worked out , and the tooth is presenting a rejection , dont think that the apiectomy cannot give you the same problem , at the end you will have the same tooth , but shorter,that tooth is almost lost , so do not put good money on a non predictable tooth, you should take it out and place instead a correct big strong implant , that will give you a proper solution , and a more predictable.
