Thanks for your question. There is no evidence that oral collagen supplements have any effect on collagen production. As with most supplements, it just produces expensive urine. We never recommend dermarollers because it causes unnecessary dermal trauma. Microneedling, especially with PRP is better because the needles travel perpendicularly to the skin surface. If you think about the rollers, they go in at an angle, straighten up and come out in the opposite direction. You end up with long slits instead of tiny pinpoints. It is illegal to sell medical devices to the public. These home use devices are dumbed down to not be medical grade (or effective). Best of luck
It is very important that anything you put on the skin after micro-needling has been specifically tested and proven to be safe to use after this procedure. Micro-needling creates thousands of micro-channels in the skin which enhance penetration of topical serums and medications, dramatically increasing their effectiveness. Up to 80% of product can penetrate the skin compared to 7 to 10% with normal topical application. Also, I do not like derma rolling, as rollers create a more erratic pattern of "tears" through the skin rather than the clean, more evenly distributed punctures seen with the motorized micro-needling machines. In my office, we use the ProCell Therapies system which combines motorized micro-needling with concentrated human growth factor serums made from human stem cells. This serum is made specifically for this treatment. Our patients also use a growth factor serum at home after the office treatment.
I agree with other Specialists regarding LONG needle derma rollers- they can cause trauma, hence why we recommend .25 to .5 max. Collagen supplements will do no harm, but no scientific evidence they will help. Stay SAFE, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
Rollers more than 1 mm can cause damage, stick to a 0.25 mm roller and look after your skin 3-4 times a day. With 0.25, you will heal in 2-4 days. Stay SAFE. Dr Davin Lim. BRISBANE, Australia.
Yes, you can wait before application - as Minoxidil in most preparations will have P. Glycol or ethanol, and preservatives, this will sting. Application 24 hours post is a sensible option. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
