What would cause GSV to recanalize & how would I know if this was going to happen to me?

I keep hearing about people who had evlt. And recurrence of gsv opening back up months or weeks or sometimes years later. And them being in more pain and having multiple ablations. Why? What would cause that. How would i know if that's going to happen to me?

Luminous,  Thank you for your excellent question.  EVLT / Saphenous Thermal Ablations are based on the published literature 93-98% effective in a year.  Naturally, that means that somewhere between 2 to 7% of the time Saphenous Vein opens up and may need re treatment.  There treatment should not be any more uncomfortable than an original treatment.  If a surgeon has a significantly higher re treatment rate of saphenous veins you might want to look elsewhere.  It is hard to predict who might have a saphenous that doesnt stay closed completely, however it the saphenous vein is very large there is a greater chance. However the chance of needing further treatment is small. Wishing you the best of health.
