Why am I having jaw/ear pain after a crown?

My permanent crown was placed and I went back twice to have it shaved down. It seems to fit well now, but I have pain in my upper jaw continuing to my ear. The crown is on the bottom. My jaw on that side does seem to feel "tense."

This could be a couple of things. If the crown was hitting too high it can cause it and the opposing teeth to hurt as well as stress the joint.  If this is the cause it will usually revert back after the inflammation and cause of the pain is relieved.  However, this could also be due to tooth infection causing radiating pain upwards around the joint and ear.  If the last adjustment seems to be relieving the pain I would give it some time to heal over.  If you start having more pain or swelling I'd go back to your dentist asap to have it evaluated.
