One of the nice things about being nearsighted is the ability to see without glasses up close without glasses. Those who are in their mid-forties, who take their glasses off to read may be candidates for surgery in only one eye. That would mean correcting one eye for distance vision and leaving the other for near. If surgery for one eye is all that is needed, the cost for LASIK is then half. The usual price for quality LASIK is about $2500 to $3500 per eye. If you can take your glasses off to read, I encourage you to ask your LASIK surgeon to demonstrate monovision to see if you enjoy the ability to have good near vision in one eye and good distance vision in the other eye.
