Could pain 1 month after wisdom tooth removal be a dry socket?

Most of the time persistent pain even 1 month after extraction of  a wisdom tooth or any other tooth is due to dry socket. Your dentist probably is right in saying so that it is a dry socket. Your dentist can see the unhealed soft tissue in the area of extraction and he will also be able to see a dry bony socket. Very simple treatment for permanent cure.  Your dentist will curette the socket with or without local anesthesia and will flush well with saline. He will place a Zinc oxide eugenol cement pack mixed with cotton fibres into the socket up to a few millimeters. Your pain will vanish the very same day in few hours. Get the same pack changed once more in 2 days time. The unhealed soft tissue and bone will start healing well. You will not have any pain after the placement of this cement pack. Pack should be removed 2 days after placement of pack to give way for bone and soft tissue to heal. Very rarely dentists prescribe Metronidazole 200 mg (thrice daily ) for a week. But this is not needed always.
