I am interested in getting 6 crowns places on my front teeth as they are not as straight as i would like, i went to a dentist who recommended braces however it would take 18 months to straighten and i don't have that time to do so. My friend recently had 6 crowns placed on her teeth and look amazing i am just concerned that my canine tooth protrudes a lot so my teeth are not in line would that matter with getting my crowns ?
Answer: Fixing my smile with dental crowns? As a cosmetic dentist in Los Angeles for over 25 years, I recommend you to have orthodontics, possibly invisalign to start, You may be ok to remove it within 6 months, ( need to see your dental records ) after you will be needing to see a Periodontist, gum specialist for contouring of your gums prior any cosmetic restoration. At that time most probably you can have porcelain veneers, rather than porcelain crowns. As far as doing 6 porcelain restoration either with dental crowns or veneers, I do not recommend that, since they will be sticking out, and especially if you do want whiter teeth, the 6 restoration will look fake when people look at you from the side. I recommend 10 porcelain restoration, and while you are going thru interim ortho treatment, do teeth bleaching on your lowers. That said, if you choose to do dental crowns without brace, first have your gums contoured and you will probably need intentional root canals, most possibly on your left canine, and possibly do veneers for your teeth that are not that crooked. I like you to do the least invasive dental procedure, since that way you can keep your teeth for a long time. You can always go from a veneer restoration to a dental crown, but once you had dental crown, you can never go back to a dental veneer.

Answer: Can I get a crown if my teeth are in line? Trying to fix my smile without braces Do not do a crown. I would tell you to do a bonded composite to begin with. You will need to have a gingivectomy to remove gum tissue from #10 to have a good gingival contour on Smile line. Results should be dramatic after a single visit. You can then decide how you you feel about the shape to your lip and tongue.I would recommend consider using a DNA Appliance to grow your jaws orthopdically and make room for that tooth. The DNA is removable and only worn 12-14 hours a day and is very comfortable. If you dont crown the teeth all options are still on the table.

Answer: Restorations to fix alignment Based on your photo, I would not have crowns placed. I would have veneers placed instead, they are much more conservative. If you have a dentist that is very experienced in cosmetics, you can correct the alignment of your teeth with restorations alone. Additionally for you, I would recommend a gingivectomy (removal of gum tissue), above tooth #10 to complete your esthetic look. Your canine protrudes but your lateral incisor (next to the canine) is also retruded. I would recommend 8 veneers for you to broaden your smile.

Answer: Fixing your smile I would agree with your dentist, I believe he/she has your best long term interest in mind. You have beautiful teeth and you need to maintain that. There is nothing that can be done with crowns that will make the protruding canine not protrude, maybe less so but it is protruding in the bone and neck of the tooth and this will not change much. The lateral incisor that is set back, if crowned, will have a large portion of porcelain on the front to give the appearance that the tooth is more forward. This typically never looks normal and is difficult to clean and maintain. I would HIGHLY advise you to see an orthodontist for braces/Invisalign and have the teeth straitened. This will give you the best long term result that you can keep for a lifetime. After orthodontics you may need some gum tissue sculpting to make the gum line of your teeth more symmetrical.
