Is it normal to feel extremely weak and tired 5 days post-op rhinoplasty?

I've mainly been in bed, and I force myself to eat and shower. A couple of days ago, my surgeon prescribed me antibiotics because I had a fever, and to also prevent infection. But is it normal to feel this weak and tired? I feel like I have a constant headache, and everything feels like a chore, including showering. I was told I'd feel better once my splint is off tomorrow, but the way I feel now, everything seems like an impossibility.

It is normal to feel weak and tired after surgery. Anesthesia and the surgery itself can often make patients feel drained. In addition, patients can experience emotional and psychological stress with their recovery and even depression. It is important, however, that you do stay up and eat appropriately. Be sure to let your surgeon know at your appointment that you are feeling that way. They will be able to let you know for sure if your symptoms are part of the normal healing process or something to be evaluated further.

Feeling run down and tired, and in some cases depressed, is not unusual after rhinoplasty. You should be having your followup today. Please discuss with your rhinoplasty surgeon. If you continue to feel bad after splint removal today, you might consider a followup with your internist.
