Will retin a actually help clear my acne, PIH, and any light scars I have on my skin? (photos)

I first started retin a August 2015 and stopped February 2016 because I never saw any improvement just more PIH and more severe acne. My dermatologist isn't the best, he just prescribes me things and doesn't really tells me how it works but he recently recommended I go back on retin a so i did about a week ago. I now realize how incorrectly I was using retin a the first time and I'm hoping because I'm using it correctly this time around it will make a change.

Tretinoin should be used s night because it causes sun sensitivity. Twice a day location will be drying and irritating. A more gradual effect is better.

It is ill advised to use in this sensitive area because it is drying and irritating. It can be used in a small area and perhaps every other day Intially .

If you want a tattoo removed it needs to be done by laser. If you are using tretinoin on a area with both acne and a tattoo it will not effect the ink which is deeper in the skin.
