After Having the Zoom Treatment Done by a Dentist, What is the Food/drink Protocol?

Zoom whitening is the the best teeth bleaching system on the market. Most patients see 4-7 shades improvement following Zoom. It is extremely important to stay away from food and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, pasta sauce, etc. for 48 hours following the teeth whitening procedure. The enamel remains porous for this period of time making it easy for the above mentioned items to penetrate the outer surface of enamel and negatively alter your results. After the first couple of days you can go back to your normal routine.

Zoom Teeth Whitening is probably one of the most effective ways to whiten your teeth. Most patients are very happy with the result and there is minimal post whitening sensitivity. 
During the first 48 hours certain dietary restrictions must be followed. We ask our patients to avoid eating or drinking things like tea, coffee, red wine etc, basically anything that can stain a white t shirt should potentially be avoided during this time. Patients who smoke are advised to avoid smoking during the fist 48 hours. 
After 2 days, you can return to normal dietary habits. Brushing or rinsing your mouth after eating food, that could potentially stain or discolour teeth, helps maintain the whitened teeth for a longer time.

After Zoom Whitening, the teeth are very dehydrated and more susceptible to stains for the next few days. I usually tell patients that for the next 72 hours to avoid foods that have a tendency to stain (meaning that if it stains your clothes, it will stain your teeth) So things like wine, coffee, ketchup, soy sauce, etc. After 72 hours, you can go back to normal. Just keep in mind that the more you avoid these staining foods/drinks, the longer your whitening will likely last. 

I would recommend  to avoid any  foods or drinks containing coloring and/or prone to stain your beautiful pearly whites, like coffee, tea, red wine, indian food for a week. I like to be conservative and make sure results of whitening will last.

Immediately after Zoom whitening your teeth are prone to absorbing stains.  We tell our patients “anything that will stain a white shirt will stain your teeth.”  The foods/beverages that we tell our patients to avoid are: coffee, smoking, pasta sauces, soy sauce, ketchup, berries, juices, soda etc…   For the first 2 weeks your teeth are more prone to absorbing stain, the first 48 hours are crucial.  Nobody is perfect, so if you happen to eat something that will stain your teeth just be sure to brush your teeth as soon as possible.   Good Luck!


 

You are most vulnerable to stains for 48hrs after your in office whitening because the pores in the teeth are still open. If you need to drink dark liquids, use a straw to bypass the front of your teeth.

To maintain your new white smile, you have to use products that will remove stain before they penetrate.

After a Zoom procedure we recommend that you stay on white or clear foods for 24 hours just like you did with Brite Smile.  I would never recommend to a patient that they avoid foods for 3 days.

However as per my personal experience and going through several published review articles on results achieved from teeth whitening, it can be said that the results do tend vary from person to person, depending on the condition of the teeth, the level of stains, post Treatment care and follow-ups as well as because of lifestyle related determinants.
After whitening procedure, avoiding acidic food can reduce the initial sensitivity which could be present post treatment. It's important to wait for at least 48-72 hours after teeth whitening treatment and avoid food or beverages that could stain the teeth, as whitening treatment can leave the outer layer of the teeth, the enamel, porous and more vulnerable towards absorbing stains.Beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, or anything that stains your teeth should be taken off from the diet chart at least for 72 hrs.Smoking should be strictly avoided for the first 24 hours because it will stain your teeth ( Although considering the documented ill effects of smoking tobacco, it's highly recommend to get over it completely)
The time duration mentioned above do vary when we go through various research articles (right from 24 hrs to 72 hrs).However from my personal experience and on a safer note I would recommend to avoid aforementioned factors for 72 hours. 
Brushing twice a day (ideally after every meal) with prescribed whitening toothpaste could act as an adjuvant.Use of Floss to prevent tartar and plaque buildup on your teeth and visiting  your Dental surgeon for whitening touch-ups and periodical checkups can definately help to maintain your pearly whites.

The protocol for zoom whitening is to refrain from all drinks and foods that would stain a white T-shirt for 48 hours . Obviously you can not stay with clear colored foods for 48 hours unless you survive on water for 2 days! So the protocol is to drink water for 48 hours, and every time you eat , brush and rinse right away soon after consuming the food .Simply do not allow stain forming foods to remain on your teeth for long. This ever one can do.
