No, Sculptra should not move to another location. However, to keep the Sculptra particles finely dispersed so that they lead to an even, smooth appearance of collagen, patients are encouraged to massage the skin using the 5-5-5 rule: massage the treated areas after injection 5 times per day for 5 minutes each time, for 5 days post injections.
Sculptra simply will not migrate. The structure of the molecule itself will prevent migration given proper injection technique. I would go as far as to say it is the only injectable that cannot migrate given the saline vehicle used to transport the product into the fatty compartments is rapidly reabsorbed leaving the "snowflake-shaped" molecule in place to stimulate collagen formation.
Sculptra injection technique includes vigorous massage frequently, Sculptra is different from fillers where location and placement is critical to fill a line, Sculptra is placed deep to stimulate neo collagenesis. This is the effect desired and movement of the new collage does not occur.
Sculptra is used to add volume to the face. Ususally several treatments over several months are required to gain results. This is a product that we like to massage immediately after injection. We also insist that the patient massage the areas treated several times a day for several days. The reasoning behind the massaging is to keep the material even and smooth to avoid bumps. It does not move the material to a different location.
Sculptra, when injected, is a solution of microscopic crystals floating in a water based solution (milky color). After injection, the crystals stay in the same general vicinity necessitating the suggested after injection massages to prevent the formations of small nodules (lumps of a mm or so) under the skin. The results of Sculptra injections are very technique dependent so make sure to see someone who is experienced.
