I just had 4 teeth extracted on Tuesday, I need to start my invisalign trays. When should I try to put them in?

The teeth needed to be extracted before I could start my treament. The Othrodontist said "immediately", but I fear the trays may allow bacteria to gather in the open wounds and a possible infection may occur. Is this correct or am I being ridiculous?

Our mouths are loaded with bacteria at all times.  Trays are not a factor.  No need to wear for a couple of days after surgery, but get going as soon as the extraction pain subsides.  There will be some discomfort when you start moving teeth.  No sense in having two "owies".

Dear mellybean88,Thank you for posting your question on Real Self.  I will do my best to answer your question with the information given.Placing the aligners immediately after the extractions is fine as long as you are not experiencing extreme pain.  Continue to follow the oral surgeon's post-op instructions and wear the aligners as soon as it's comfortable for you.  The sooner the aligners are moving the teeth, the faster the teeth can move through those extraction spaces.I hope that this helps and good luck!Best,Dr. Jenn
