I'm experiencing increased hair loss and missing period (3 months). I'm only 18 years old. What could it be ?
Answer: Please see your dermatologist or gynecologist Hair loss over a short period of time in a young female is probably due to telogen effluvium. There are many different causes of telogen effluvium, including hormonal imbalances (including thyroid), severe stress, illness, eating disorders (including crash dieting), chronic illnesses, medication, among many other causes. Missing periods along with new hair loss is also concerning and may likely be related. I encourage you to see your dermatologist and gynecologist as soon as possible.

Answer: Hair loss in 18 F There are at least 50 causes so it's important to see a dermatologist or gynaecologist (or both). In general, the causes of hair loss in an 18 year old female missing her periods for three months can be divided into two big categories:1. The hair loss has nothing to do with the reasons for missing periods2. The reason for hair loss is closely related to reason for missing periods. It's a good idea to see your physician to figure out which group you belong to. Stress, depression, thyroid problems, dieting, poor nutrition, stopping birth control pills, polycystic ovarian syndrome and illness are just some of the reasons an 18 year old F can have hair loss and missed periods. There are many other reasons too - so if you are concerned please see your physician.
