Q Should I stop taking Finasteride before my hair transplant procedure?
A This has been the most frequently asked question before hair transplantation procedures. Well, as you all know that finasteride is a DHT blocker and most people take it for various reasons like hair thinning problems, or for improving the donor region. If a patient has been consuming finasteride for just about one month, they can immediately go in for a hair transplantation procedure. Otherwise I strongly recommend that you stop consuming finasteride at least 4-6 weeks before the hair transplant, because it takes around 4 to 6 weeks for the miniaturised hairs that have been made robust, go back to their previous state. If it is not stopped, anagen hairs cannot be targeted since even catagen hairs look as robust as anagen hairs.
In conclusion, I suggest that patients must refrain from taking finasteride as a solution to improve the donor area, unless they are prescribed to take finasteride for the rest of their lives.
