Hello friends! This year I finally had a cosmetic surgery on my jaws but before writing about it I want to tell you a little before-story. More than 10 years ago I received an injury in a fight. My both upper and lower jaws were broken into several pieces and doctor collected them back. That doctor didn’t care about my appearance much, the main target for him was to rehabilitate me and as time went by I began to notice how my lower jaw started to move to the left. In the next couple of years the misalignment became only worse and it made my confidence really low. As my lower jaw moved to the left, everything on my face started to move to the left too. I noticed that my nose became crooked, my eyes asymmetric and even my ears looked weird. I wanted to change everything in myself and it made me really insecure. It became more and more difficult to find a girlfriend, I stopped meeting new people and only few very old friends stayed with me. Some years ago when I came to Korea for the first time I didn’t even think about having any surgery until I saw a TV show where popular Korean plastic surgeons filmed about their work. I saw lot of people with problems similar to mine and I realized that my problem can actually be fixed. I started to visit plastic surgery clinics and last year I met doctor Oh from Regen. I received a lot of knowledge about my problem from him and how it can be fixed but I didn’t have enough money, so I put everything on hold and decided to save some money up. In February 27 this year I came back to Regen for my operation. I had only about 20% of my actual teeth remaining, the remaining 80% were crowns due to my injury. When the mold of my jaws was ready doctor Oh said that I need to remove crowns from two of my molars on the lower right. The reason was that he needed to cut lower jaw and move it to 7mm right and crowns made it impossible, as they created wrong bite after the surgery. So, in March 11 I came back for another consultation without those 2 crowns and it took another 2 weeks to create my facebow. In March 25 I came for the last before operation consultation. After I went to the 14 floor and a nurse fixed metallic wires on my teeth. Even though I wasn’t afraid of pain, I couldn’t sleep the whole night because thoughts about how I would look after the surgery didn’t leave me. Very sleepy and tired and at the same time very excited in March 26 early in the morning I came for my operation. It started at 11 am and lasted for about 2 hours but I woke up from anesthesia only after 3 pm. I didn’t feel pain, I didn’t feel anything and my first reaction was to touch my face. I tried to lift my hands but it was very hard like I had no power. A nurse brought me to my recovery room where my friends were waiting for me. First I felt very very hot and asked to turn on the ac but some time later I felt normal and turned it off. The nurse said not to sleep, gave me a board so I could talk with my friends. The first night was really difficult to sleep. Saliva collected in my mouth and as it was also very hard to swallow I began to cough and that made it even more difficult to breathe. Next morning a nurse tried to put elastics on wires. It was very painful to open my mouth and I think she was afraid to make me feel even worse so we decided to wait for doctor Oh. He came to check me at around 11 am and put those elastics so quickly that I didn’t even notice. They said that I can’t use a straw and I tried to drink water with a tea spoon but it was really really hard and they give me a syringe. For more than 24 hours I didn’t drink and eat. I was tired and very hungry. The only thing I could drink apart from water was soybean milk and that was the only “food” I felt in my mouth in the past 2 days. After 2 days a nurse said that I can only drink liquids, everything that went to my mouth should be clean like water, no crumbs or fibers in juice or soup as it could stay in my mouth and since I couldn’t open it, everything might cause an infection. She also said that I had to rinse my mouth at least 20 times a day. Before leaving the clinic I went to B1 and bought medicines that doctor Oh prescribed me, they grinded it into a powder so it was quite easy for me to take them. A week after I was called to come for dressing, laser treatments and drain removal and they showed me how to change elastics. After 2 weeks I was called for facial massage, another laser treatment and stitches removal. I also felt some salty taste in my mouth when pressed on my face from the right side next to my nose. Doctor Oh made new x-rays and said it was a pus. So, he prescribed medicines for another 2 weeks. That night my face became very swollen. I was afraid that something went wrong and couldn’t sleep the whole night. In the morning I called Regen but they said it’s normal because I had to open my mouth during stitches removal which caused some pressure on my jaws and they are still healing. But after thinking back Regen told me I had to properly care the inside of my mouth by rinsing over 10 times a day which I don’t think I did. I think things would’ve been better if I had done what they told me 100%. I think if you feel something is wrong you should contact the hospital right away. I came to Regen every week the first month. After 1 month doctor Oh again checked that right place and some pus again came out. So we took a look at my before x-rays and it turned out that the pus was there before and I remembered that had sinusitis few years before. Hopefully it was nothing wrong with operation but doctor Oh prescribed me some more medicines. After checking my 1 month ct scans and x-rays doctor Oh confirmed that everything was healing very good. He didn’t fix my jaws with titanium and wanted my bones to heal themselves, therefore making them stronger and told me to keep wearing elastics and a wafer. My 1 month consultation was in April 25, so doctor Oh said till May 25 to keep long elastics during day time so I can talk and short elastics at night and wafer 24 hours except the time when I ate. Till June 25 I had to keep only long elastics and wafer, after that I could remove everything. The last time I saw doctor Oh was July 1, he asked to bring the wafer to see if my teeth are in the right position. Everything looks good. He finally removed wires from my teeth that scratched my cheeks from the inside and I don’t need to keep a wafer in my mouth now. But I worried a little because when I lean my head forward and move it from side to side, I still can feel that my lower jaw is also in free moving. Doctor Oh said that it’s fine and that I need more time as bones are not fixed. I can also feel that my bones close to my ears are a bit sharp when touch my face and he said it’s because they were cut and when my bones would be totally healed everything would feel smooth. As for changes in my life, the first and most important thing is that the quality of my file was definitely improved. My friends noticed that my speech now is clearer, my pronunciation is clear and I can feel that my confidence also went up. I’m still single but hope that will find my soul mate very soon. Before the surgery, when I spoke to the consultant, I said that I want to change everything, I wanted to have rhinoplasty with blepharoplasty and even otoplasty. When I had my first consultation with doctor Oh I mentioned about it but he said that I don’t need anything, that my nose bridge is high enough and that my eyes are quite symmetrical. The only thing I really needed was two-jaw and he said that once I fix my jaws, my nose would look higher and eyes more symmetrical. He was right. I can notice how in 4 months everything aligned little by little. I’m still healing but I like my results. I think doctor Oh is the best surgeon and I’m very very thankful to him for helping me to became normal again, feel attractive and confident. Thank you friends for reading my story, I hope you like it!
