I have been intrigued with microneedling for some time now. About a month ago my PS had a demo of microneedling and after watching a real person, not a video, get the procedure I was hooked. I purchased a three session package for a special price, one procedure isn't going to do it in my opinion. I scheduled the first session (this is not a "vampire facial") and waited a month because I had just had Botox and filler. Prior to the procedure I had a Skin Consultation/Visia Complexion Analysis. I'm 73 and the result showed my skin was 58% better condition than most in my age group hoorah! We discussed what my biggest concerns were (spots, enlarged pores and lip lines), then the Aesthetician showed me to the procedure room. My face was cleansed, cleaned with something that smelled like nail polish remover, then the numbing cream was put on me. It was left on for 20 minutes - should have been longer - it was removed and she started. It wasn't too painful, next time I'm asking for 30 minutes with numbing cream. The noise the pen makes reminded me of being at the dentist. I definitely felt the needles (36) and she was aggressive with the areas I was most concerned with. She went horizontally, vertically and in circles. Along my hairline was about an 8 on scale of 1 to 10 for pain. Above my lip also was quite uncomfortable. She did my jawline and under my jaw also. I asked her if many men did this and she said not really, of course not, what was I thinking men wouldn't go through this. LOL When the procedure was complete she applied a growth factor serum and had me sit at a GentleWave machine that was to help with redness. I was sent home with instructions to not put anything on my face or wash it for the first 24 hours. I looked like a tomato, I used a cool washcloth on my face to help the heat and burning. For me it was like a severe sunburn. I tried to sleep on my back and did not have a good nights rest. Day two still red as a beet, used some gauze pads soaked in water and lightly went over my face - no scrubbing. I applied the Obagi Hydrate moisturizer which stung, then used the Obagi Soothing Complex which made my face feel better. Both products were included in the price. I have a lot of swelling and redness especially in my areas of concern. As the day goes on I continue to use the moisturizer. My face feels very tight and is shiny. I will update as time goes on. I believe that this will take time to see final results, the sessions are a month apart. It was not horrible, nor was it fun. I followed to the letter the instructions I was given for aftercare and I will see the Skin Consultant for follow up in two weeks. Updated on 29 Mar 2019: It's been four days since procedure. My face is less red and there is a slight peeling like from a sunburn. Skin is very dry and I will continue to slather the moisturizer on. Only time will tell. I will update again once I have the follow up skin consultation. Updated on 12 Apr 2019: I'm doing good, still peeling, face not red. Another face analysis was done and there is some improvement between the first and this analysis. My 73 year old skin is softer (not baby butt soft) and there is a slight change with a few of my "spots" which have gotten lighter. There isn't any change that I can see with my naked untrained eye to the pores around and on my nose. As I've said this is going to be a long process, after the last treatment the face will continue to heal for 3-4 months. It's all about patience which is probably difficult for many of today's women who want instant gratification. We all heal at different rates and everyone is different. Over the last two weeks, I've been red, peeled and developed scary dark spots that finally peeled off. My face is no longer dry, tight or shiny. I make sure that I continue to use moisturizer, a gentle cleanser and sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. So far I'm happy with the initial results. In two weeks I will get my second session. Updated on 25 Apr 2019: Went this morning for my second session. The numbing cream was left on for 30 minutes which made a huge difference from my first session. There were still spots that hurt; by the ears, jawbone and under eyes, but nothing like the first time. I am very, very red (she was aggressive) and using a cool washcloth on my face to help calm it down. In two weeks will do a follow up skin evaluation then in two more weeks will be my third and final session. Nothing earth shattering to report except the next to no pain this time because we left the numbing stuff on a lot longer. Updated on 27 Apr 2019: Face is less inflamed, but it looks like I was run over by a lawn mower. This second session was more aggressive than the first resulting in more marks, dry skin, etc. Not only am I dealing with this but also have nasty tooth problem. Always something. Anyway, I'm continuing with very gentle cleansing, moisturizer and sun block (if I venture outdoors). Updated on 10 May 2019: I've had my second visit with the skin consultant and it went great. She showed me the differences between the before, first treatment and the second procedure - it is a big change. After the second session I peeled a ton more than the first - it was pretty bad. My skin turned so dark that I looked like I had a beard (LOL). But once all that dead skin peeled off (it did take quite awhile) my skin looked so nice and felt much softer. I have my third and last session in a few weeks. I am very pleased with the results so far, my face definitely looks fresher. I have gotten into the habit of using sunblock and moisturizer every day which I was pretty lax in the past especially with the sunscreen. This isn't a quick fix, but improvement will show up over time. Patience is the key with this procedure. I am very satisfied with the results and Tatum my Aesthetician at Physician's Center for Beauty is the bomb. Everyone from the PS to the practice manager are professional and friendly. Updated on 23 May 2019: Today was my last treatment, Tatum was super aggressive with my trouble spots. This was the first time I felt the blood running down my face. Once done, cold compresses were placed on my face to cool it down, then a nice massage with growth serum. I will go back in four weeks for a follow up with the Skin Consultant, Marilyn, to check my progress. The biggest change was after the second treatment and I can't wait to see how my skin will be after this treatment. I am very happy with this procedure and it certainly has helped my skin with tightening and removal of "spots". It's the tiny improvements that don't show up in a photo; smaller pores, glowing skin which I thought was a lot of hooey-now I'm a believer, even the tightening of my skin I've noticed. It does take patience to see the end result. I'll update after my appointment in four weeks with skin consultant. Updated on 23 Jun 2019: This was my one month skin consultation (with Marilyn) after my third and last session. My skin has improved by leaps and bounds and I'm very happy with the results. My skin is very healthy looking and should continue to improve. I left with two new products (no hard sell here only suggestions) Obagi 10% Vitamin C Serum for mornings and Avene RetrinAL intensive cream for evenings. Both products are followed up with my regular moisturizer and during the day an added sunscreen, ISDIN broad sprectum 50+ SPF. I loved this procedure because it wasn't going to burn with chemical peeling my skin or any of the other rather (IMO) scary procedures out there. I am scheduled for four months to do another skin consultation to see how my skin is doing. I will definitely have this done again to keep that healthy glow and possibly more improvement. The enlarged pores around my nose have gotten less noticeable as have the upper lip lines. My forehead "spot" is considerably lighter. This procedure has made me be much more diligent with sunscreen which until now was pretty haphazard. Everyone at the Physicians Center for Beauty was professional and friendly. I especially like the fact that Dr. Maguire has all procedures under one roof. For me, it makes me much more comfortable to know that Dr. M and his team are all right there in one place. Updated on 8 May 2020: My skin still looks great and I am very happy with microneedling results. Today was first treatment since COVID 19 closed our PS' doors. It does take a long time to get through the process of getting into the actual office now. Once I arrived in the parking lot, I called and let them know I arrived. I was then temperature checked, and made sure I had a mask with me. I was then taken into the office and my skin consultant did a check of my face - I was given the option of having picture taken of skin or not it was up to me. She and I kept our masks on and we were both gloved. She was happy with my skin texture, etc. I was then taken to another room where my PS would meet me to do (much needed) Botox and filler. When he arrived we chatted about sanitation/sterilization procedures that where in place and he proceeded to the injections. I did have pain killer put around my mouth where the filler (Restylane) was to be done "smokers lines" no I don't smoke and never have, slight drooping at corners of my mouth and some filler added to my lips (never had that done before). Botox between eyebrows. I was given an ice pack and led to the reception desk for payment. I do love the fact that Dr. Maguire does all injections. All in all I was happy with the procedure and exceptionally satisfied with the safety procedures in place. Be prepared that your appointment will take much longer than before COVID. From arrival to the parking lot to driving home it was approximately two hours. It was so nice to see people again and not just talking to my cat. My lips did swell and are still puffy two days later, I also have a few bruises that my go to for bruises Arnica gel haven't made disappear. I am 74 and my lips appear to get thinner each year, fingers crossed that once the swelling settles down and bruises disappear I will love my lips. Updated on 13 May 2020: It has been one week since I had my injection and I still have several dark bruises. Arnica does not appear to help with the bruising. I used it when I had my facelift and it helped tremendously but with the lips it seems that I will just have to wait until it goes away on it's own. Of course, wearing a face mask (COVID) when I go out hides the bruises. Don't know how much longer it will take for the bruising to disappear. My lips and "smokers lines" aren't as noticable.
