Q: Best way to get rid of cherry angioma on my leg? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. MurgiaJune 30, 2021

A: This looks more consistent with a lesion called a dermatofibroma and would be why you're not seeing improvement. You should schedule an in-person consultation with a board-certified dermatologist for evaluation and treatment, if you desire.

Q: Can I remove these prominent hand and foot veins? (photos)
Answered by Dr. MurgiaMarch 20, 2021

A: Sclerotherapy is great method for eliminating both spider veins and smaller varicose veins and can be performed on both the hands and feet. Sclerotherapy has been around for years and is considered one of the best methods for reducing and eliminating unwanted veins. Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a sclerosing solution into the targeted vein. The sclerosing agent dissolves the vein from the inside, after which the body naturally eliminates what is left.

Q: How do I get rid of this? I went to my dentist and she described it as a broken blood vessel. (Photo)
Answered by Dr. MurgiaMarch 20, 2021

A: The Pulsed Dye Laser, or PDL, uses a concentrated beam of light that targets blood vessels in the skin. It is one of the best treatment options for vascular problems such as hemangiomas, broken blood vessels, port-wine stains, scars, and other vascular lesions. The light is converted into heat, destroying the blood vessel while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. The laser uses yellow light, which is very safe. PDL treatments usually take only a few minutes and are performed during an outpatient clinic visit. No anesthesia is required, as the machine produces a cold spray just before the laser pulse, diminishing the sensation of pain. This would be a great treatment option for the lesion on your lip. Remember to always consult with a board-certified cosmetic physician.
