37 Q&A

Q: Can a canthoplasty be done to correct the downward slant at the corner of my eyes? (photos)
Answered by Dr. GhafouriFebruary 19, 2019

A: It appears you have some degree of lower eyelid retraction. This condition can be improved w a canthoplasty procedure. You need to have an evaluation by an oculoplastic surgeon in your area. Good luck!

Q: Eyes not even after 16 days. Did my ptosis surgery fail? (photo)
Answered by Dr. GhafouriJanuary 12, 2019

A: The results from ptosis surgery can be unpredictable at times. However, in the hands of an experience oculoplastic surgeon excellent results can be obtained.  From the photo, it is difficult to determine exactly what is going on. Certainly, 16 days is not enough time to see the final surgical outcome. If you are not happy with your surgeon’s explanation I would recommend seeking another opinion from an ocular plastic surgeon.

Good luck

Q: What is the standard eyelid surgery recovery time?
Answered by Dr. GhafouriJanuary 12, 2019

A: Some degree of swelling and bruising is expected after any type of eyelid surgery. There are some measures that can be taken prior to surgery to minimize the amount of swelling and bruising and speed up recovery. In general, patients need to avoid taking aspirin containing products, fish oil, vitamin E, or other blood thinners for two to three weeks before the surgery. Please refer to our website to see more detailed and specific information in that regard.

In the hands of a skilled surgeon with meticulous attention to detail and control of bleeding the amount of bruising and swelling is minimized. Generally, we advise patients to take one week off from work. However, there might be still some visible bruising and swelling in some patients after a week. There are measures that can be taken even after the surgery to reduce bruising and swelling, such as taking steroid pills or treating the bruised areas with intense pulse light. There are specific post-operative instructions that we have devised to help patients have a speedy recovery.

Q: Droopy Eyelids - Alternatives to Eyelift Surgery?
Answered by Dr. GhafouriJanuary 12, 2019

A: The possible options for non-surgical rejuvenation around eyes include: dermal fillers, botox injections, and laser skin resurfacing (such as CO2 or Erbium). The above procedures help to reduce signs of aging in different ways. For instance, by injecting botox into particular muscles around the eyes and eyebrow depressor muscles, it is possible to raise the eyebrows up and reduce the amount of upper eyelid hooding. But it is only a temporary measure and botox injections need to be repeated every three to four months. Dermal fillers can help with treatment of circles under eyes, reduce the appearance of eyebags fill in tear trough under eyes. Dermal fillers under the eye could last up to oone year and even longer. Abalative laser procedures can help to tighten the skin, promote college formation and reduce the wrinkles around the eye.

Eyelid surgery such as blepharoplasty is the main surgical treatment to address signs of aging such as hooding and droop eyelids, lower eyelid bags, and tear trough. In the hands of an experienced and specialized surgeon ( oculoplastic surgeon) this is a very safe procedure with life changing results that could last a lifetime.

Q: 10months post lower blepharoplasty. Droopy eyes, chemosis, tight feeling and so uncomfortable. Are the results too tight?
Answered by Dr. GhafouriNovember 22, 2018

A: There are number of treatments and procedures can be done to treat the chemosis. Also the Lower eyelid malposition needs to be surgically repaired. You need to see an oculoplastic surgeon in your area.

Good Luck,
