39 year old man treated with FUE Hair Transplant, Minoxidil and Low-Level Laser Therapy (BIOLIGHT Laser Cap) - This is a 39-year-old male who came to us with a history of hair loss spanning more than 10 years, starting in his late 20s. At the time of his consultation, he was not on any medications or taking any steps to slow or stop his hair loss. There was a strong family history of hair loss in his father and maternal grandfather. What bothered him most was the thinning in the frontal scalp as well as the appearance of a very deep widows peak on both sides of the hairline. You can see in the frontal view that, with the extent of thinning, you can see almost as far back as the mid-scalp. He was seeking a more youthful hairline with added density in the frontal scalp. This was his first surgery. He had a 1500 graft FUE to rebuild the hairline and add density behind it in the frontal scalp. Being close to 40 years old he wanted the resulting shape and density to appear as natural as possible. We used an irregularly irregular scalloped design to mimic the natural appearance of a hairline, focussing on density in the nearly empty areas just behind the hairline. Additional density was placed behind that. At the same time, he was started on a preventive regimen of high-strength minoxidil and the BIOLIGHT laser cap to prevent any more ongoing hair loss. He returned to us 11 months after his surgery with amazing results and hes very happy! The widows peak has been softened and weve been able to maintain natural, masculine corners in the fronto-temporal angles (where the front hairline meets the side hairline). There is enough density in the frontal scalp that you cant see through it to the mid-scalp behind anymore. The donor area looks amazing and you cant tell that any grafts have been extracted from that area. In fact, nobody who just met him would be able to tell that hes had any hair transplant surgery at all! The supplementary therapies (minoxidil and laser cap) have worked really well so far to help him keep the hair he still has, and theres been no progression of his hair loss in other areas. We discussed a long-term maintenance strategy and hes going to continue with his high-strength minoxidil and BIOLIHT laser cap indefinitely. If he ever decides to seek just a little added density in the crown, we discussed the possibility of starting platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

29 year old man treated with FUE Hair Transplant, Minoxidil and Finasteride - This is a gentleman who came to us at only age 29 for a hair transplant. His hair loss began in his early 20s and in only a few short years progressed to at least a Norwood Stage 5, or maybe beyond. He had never tried any evidence-based treatments to slow or reverse his hair loss. Despite his young age, he had complete obliteration of his hairline and front scalp, with near complete loss in the midscalp through to the crown. The result was disproportionate features, the loss of the frame to his face, and the appearance of being much older than his 29 years. Fortunately, he had an excellent donor area. Prior to surgery, we discussed the importance of supplementary non-surgical therapies like finasteride and minoxidil to help him preserve the hair he still had. In this way, we could use a hair transplant to replace what hes lost, knowing that hed be highly unlikely to lose additional hair in other areas. As a result of his large and dense donor area, we were able to perform a 3146 graft FUE surgery. This is one of the largest single session FUE surgeries ever performed at Toronto Hair Transplant Centre and is a larger graft amount for this type of surgery than average. You can see from our surgical drawings that his goal was not to achieve an overly aggressive hairline, but rather to have a natural hairline that preserved enough donor grafts to add some density in the midscalp and crown, while still giving him a frame to his face and good coverage upfront. He wanted the kind of hairline that would continue to look natural into his 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. The majority of the grafts were distributed to the frontal scalp to rebuild the density there, while a few were added to the midscalp and crown. We knew this would not add overly thick density to those areas, but it would still make a significant difference. This patient returned to see us 13 months after his surgery. His results are absolutely amazing! He looks like, well, just a guy with hair! His forehead is much less prominent and he looks much more youthful and in line with his age.
