Ptosis or drooping of the eyelids can be age-related, when the muscle that lifts the upper eyelids called the levator muscle weakens and stretches with age. The lengthened muscle causes the eyelids to droop and cover the pupil, and can affect vision, making corrective surgery a necessity. Ptosis correction surgery is done exclusively by oculoplastic/ oculofacial plastic surgeons.

After undergoing periocular cosmetic surgery and subsequent revision surgery performed elsewhere, she experienced significant damage to her levator muscle, resulting in ptosis. Following the repair of the levator muscle, her appearance achieved a nearly symmetrical outcome. I am pleased to have been able to help her out, especially because she was feeling so down and miserable about it.

This lovely patient had visually significant Ptosis of both upper eyelids. The drooped lids were obstructing her field of vision, blocking light getting into her eyes for reading and daily visual tasks, and affecting her overall quality of life. I performed a Bilateral Upper Lid Ptosis Repair by Levator Advancement (tightening the upper eyelid muscles), and her postop photo shows her appearance 7 weeks out from surgery. Her hidden upper lid incisions are healing well and fading. I also removed some redundant skin from her upper lids during surgery to give her a more balanced appearance between her upper and lower eyelids. She did not elect for any lower eyelid procedures. She has a natural appearing and symmetric result from surgery, and is well pleased with the improvement.
