Every month, we strive to bring you a balanced mix of breaking news (for instance, the weight-loss injection everyone’s talking about lately) and advice you can always use, like how to make your hands look younger or what you need to know about laser hair removal depending on your skin tone. Invariably though, there’s an intriguing headline or viral post that doesn’t make its own stand-alone story yet is still worthy of a share.
Which brings us here, to the latest installment of This Month in Aesthetics, an ICYMI recap of industry-molding moments that we’d be remiss not to acknowledge—from a Backstreet Boy getting liposuction to a new RF microneedling device hitting derms’ offices.
Khloé Kardashian says she thinks about getting a boob job all the time
“I’m really contemplating getting my boobs done,” Khloé tells her mom in the latest episode of The Kardashians. “It’s just something I think about all the— ,” she says before she’s cut off. “Oh, let’s do it together!” Kris exclaims. “Is that weird, mother-daughter boob jobs?”
In a confessional, Khloé opens up further: “I’m wearing a latex top with like, a bra top, so they look great right now, and I wish they looked like this all the time. I just want fuller. Like when you see me in a bikini, I don’t have like, cleavage,” she says, adding that her sisters have “ample cleavage.” (Kourtney has admitted to having breast implants; none of the other sisters have.)
Lately, Khloé’s been surprisingly open about the procedures she’s gotten—including her rhinoplasty and recent skin cancer surgery—so here’s hoping she’ll soon reveal whether she has actually gotten a breast augmentation since filming.
Vivace Ultra receives FDA clearance and will be available in early 2023
Vivace, the popular skin rejuvenation treatment that combines radiofrequency energy with microneedling to boost production of collagen and elastin, has gotten an upgrade. Vivace Ultra just received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the full national rollout of the device is planned for early 2023. In addition to the RF microneedling modality, Vivace Ultra also has ultrasound imaging and mapping capabilities, which allows providers to develop personalized treatment in each layer of the skin; varying needle sets, to treat both small and large areas of skin; and a patent-pending delivery system that evenly distributes heat energy into the dermis with greater accuracy. Vivace Ultra can be performed on all skin tones—and unlike with other microneedling devices, RealSelf members report little to no pain during treatment.
Jessica Simpson is the new face of Emface
Jessica Simpson was one of the first in line to try Emface, the buzzy new device that aims to naturally lift skin and lessen wrinkles via radiofrequency and high-intensity electromagnetic muscle stimulation. The singer posted a short video of herself getting the treatment with Dr. Brian Kinney, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California. “It tickles, it gives me chill bumps!” she says as the device is powered on. Her caption reads: “Getting kissed by @emface and I can’t wait to see my results!”
Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean got liposuction on his neck and has “no shame”
In a recent interview with People, AJ McLean shares how his experience competing on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race led to his decision to get FaceTite and liposuction of his neck and jawline. After a makeup artist on set used face tape to temporarily pull up and tighten his sagging skin, McLean says, “I got to see what I looked like with a jawline and Ru told me how beautiful I looked and I got so emotional. It really struck me.”
It was McLean’s wife who then suggested liposuction and found him an “amazing” doctor. He got radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL), to tighten loose skin while removing fat cells, and says he looks 10 years younger now after losing more than 30 pounds and celebrating one year of sobriety. “I just feel like a new human. And I’m so thankful for the show for giving me that little ounce of confidence to do something for myself that makes me feel so good. Without the show, I never would have done it. I would have just kept growing out a long beard and would have always been insecure about it. But now I can say for the first time, I love my profile,” he says.
Carole Radziwill shows off her new, six-figure smile
Carole Radziwill is the latest celeb to see New York City cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Apa for his signature smile makeover—and the procedure cost her a whopping $110K. The former RHONY socialite updated her 20-year-old veneers, replacing 12 uppers and 10 lowers, with the goal of improving not only the shape and color but also the appearance of her top lip when she smiled. “Honestly it looks like I had lip filler!” Radziwill wrote on a before-and-after posted to her Instagram Story.

Jamie Lee Curtis comes out against Botox and plastic surgery
In an interview with Today, Jamie Lee Curtis shared the aging advice she gives her daughters: “Don’t mess with your face.” (Her warning comes from personal experience; she previously told Fast Company how a plastic surgery procedure led to her Vicodin addiction.) “I did plastic surgery. I put Botox in my head. Does Botox make the big wrinkle go away? Yes. But then you look like a plastic figurine.”
To each their own, we say, but a skilled provider really does make all the difference if natural, nonfrozen results are what you’re after. And Kelly Ripa, who has been outspoken about her love of Botox, knows that all too well; in her just-released memoir, she shares a list of her favorite doctors.
