1 out of 5 stars Breast Reduction
I went to Brantner for breast reduction and tummy tuck. The initial visit was good. He was very nice, upbeat, explained everything and even encouraging. He asked "if I was ready to wear a 2 piece this summer" The day after surgery I was getting ready to go for my post op visit and the drain on the left side of my abdomen came out. He said "It will be fine. Everything looks great!" One day...
I would not have Dr. Brantner do a revision. (or explantation w/o exchange, even if he would do it.) He said, "Forget everything you have ever heard about implants, it's not true. I have silicone in my body and so do you." (like that's even close to the same thing. Silicone and it's thirty some chemicals leaching into a body for over 20 years vs. small amounts from processed foods or the environment maybe.) What an ignorant demeaning comment. He was very defensive about his livelihood putting in breast implants. I think it is just a conflict of interests, maybe, and why the top surgeons who specialize in explantation DO NOT put implants in women. I never even went into my symptoms except for the shocking pain down my arm from my armpit. He said he didn't know what that was but could not even consider silicone as the cause. Ok, well I don't know for sure either, but wouldn't it be worth an ultrasound to see if there is silicone and what about removing it? Nope. He can't remove what he doesn't acknowledge. He also ordered a mammogram!! I refused. The top guys/gals who do explantation say you never want to do a mammogram on old implants, especially if they are encapsulated and suspected to be ruptured. (like mine) The FDA's website says that implants break down and should be replaced after 10 years. Manufacturers acknowledge this, but he says they last 25-30 yrs. That is a lie and irresponsible to tell people that. They also say you need an MRI every 2 yrs to detect rupture. He doesn't seem to know that either. Besides being arrogant and ranting on about how great his silicone implants are, he never introduced himself or even acknowledged my husband sitting in the room. His cell phone went off in the middle of our visit, blaring "Pretty woman walkin down the street". Kind of unprofessional. He never even discussed options other than new implants. He is older and out of touch with current data and newer options other than implants. On a personal note, his religious artwork everywhere did not make me trust him more. Here in the bible belt it is pretty common, but it still does not lend blind credibility to informed patients who base respect on your level of honesty (fail), compassion and consideration (fail), and overall professional manor (also fail). Sorry. I did like his staff. They were nice. I heard that he did a nice breast reduction for one of the girls in my PCP's office. So, maybe that's a plus. He is just arrogant and ignorant about removing breast implants.
5 out of 5 stars Tummy Tuck
I researched Dr. Brantner on the web. He has an office in Greeneville, TN as well as the Johnson City, TN office that I went through.
