36 & Ready to Finally Have my Nose Done - Baltimore, MD

Dr. Boahene was very knowledgeable, professional & very nice...I feel comfortable with leaving my nose in his hands.

5 out of 5 stars Revision Rhinoplasty

Complicated Revision Rhinoplasty Made Easy by a Superb Surgeon - Baltimore, MD

PRE-OP: Firstly, I had consultations and interactions with multiple surgeons including Jason Hamilton, Oleh Slupchynskyj, Ron Hazani, Julien Da Silva, Sam Rizk, and Paul Nassif. All of these surgeons are deeply skilled and good in lots of aspects...So why did I choose Dr Boahene over these other surgeons? The first thing was that he responded to me personally and in a good amount of time, despite my having issues with this with other members of his team. He acted quickly and professionally to avoid me being unhappy with the communication I was receiving and so answered my queries personally. This meant a lot to me. Having that added personal touch made a huge difference, knowing I was speaking to him directly and that he took my concerns seriously meant that he cared. If he cared that much about my phone calls and emails then he'd definitely care about my nose. Secondly, I had THREE consultations with a different surgeon with whom I was quite set on, however, in the final consultation I decided to ask and then compare his surgical methods with Dr B's. This other surgeon then refuted the claims Dr B had made about being able to thin my thick skin, whilst adding grafts for definition and also reducing the tip width; he said that it was impossible. He then went on to ask me to show him pics of my nose before my primary and said that I was beautiful before and I've ruined my nose and if it were up to him he'd take my nose back to how it was before surgery. That REALLY upset me and also made me a little worried about Dr B's claims, but when I went back to him with my researched questions regarding his methods, he was able to intricately explain how it IS possible, what would be done and how his experience makes the difference. Instead of just sounding great, he gave me all the technical information I needed and was backed up by his biographical info and portfolio. The fact that he is a facial reconstructive surgeon really solidified things for me, as he is not merely a plastic surgeon or solely a nose surgeon, he fixes people's facial abnormalities, which means every single day he's faced with complicated procedures where he may have to fix something delicate and in a functional way, as well as making it look pretty...A WHOLE FACE...that takes serious skill, so you can't not trust someone that's able to do that. There's ONE thing I will say, unless you are ABSOLUTELY CRYSTAL CLEAR about everything that you want to achieve, you'll find it difficult to get the results you want, but Dr B is able to use his experience and skill to piece together all the little changes you want to make, to at least help you realise what the entire outcome should be, and not just wing it like most other surgeons; again, probably because he deals with the entire face. The BEST feeling was having our face to face consultation, where he edited some images to show an example of my final look. He literally took 5mins to edit my pictures to show what he wanted to do to my nose and it was PERFECT! POST OP: After my primary when my cast came off, I cried for HOURS. I was hideous. The nurse tried to reassure me that it was just swelling but I was SO upset. This time, Dr B personally interrupted a nurse that was being less than delicate with my nose, and came in and took over so he could remove the cast himself. I remember distinctly, he said "Wow, just wow! That's a beautiful nose" He was and is right and his reaction and manner reassured me massively. There were zero tears. Dr B's whole personality is encouraging, even before you take into account how experienced and talented he is. He's an adorable, sweet guy, and despite me sometimes being less than easy to deal with, he maintained his sweetness and professionalism, and I respected that greatly. His communication and the time and dedication he took to make sure I was sure of what I wanted and happy with him as a surgeon, also the time he took to answer all my many MANY emails and questions, was impeccable and he honestly went above and beyond to make me happy. I have never received this level of personal care, communication, patience and dedication from anyone in any kind of health care service, let alone a surgeon. LASTLY and MOST IMPORTANTLY: All the other surgeons I spoke to and had consultations with said that what I was asking them to do either wasn't possible and or they didn't think they were experienced and or skilled enough to perform it to my satisfaction; some even warned me against having a revision surgery done at all, because what I wanted couldn't be achieved. The fact that all of those top Drs actually said they were physically unable to perform my kind of surgery because they didn't have the skills and or experience, and or that what I wanted wasn't possible, and Dr B was the only one that was like "it can be done...like THIS" ...I can't see how anyone (specifically a black person with a complicated surgical history and thick nasal skin) would want to put their face in anyone else's hands. The difference between a good surgeon and a great surgeon is being faced with something challenging and using your skills, and or getting new ones, to fix the problem. Dr Boahene is a great surgeon. Despite all of the Drs I approached being experts in their fields, Dr Boahene was the only one that was able to find and use creative and innovative techniques to make my wishes achievable. This shows passion and dedication and ultimately, genius. Any kind of negativity I felt or received was never from Dr Boahene directly and so I want to make it clear that any low ratings I give are not a reflection on his work, but on the administrative process. I trusted Dr Boahene with my nose, but now that I've met him and experienced his work, I would trust him with my life.

Can't breath after my rhinoplasty with Dr Boahene

Dr Boahene is a nice man, but I am not satisfied with my result. My main issues are: --- Crooked nose, uneven, displaced graft I had my surgery in April 2015. Even after my cast removal I noticed my nose was not straight. He insisted that it was due to swelling. Later told me the graft shifted and that I should massage it back into place. I did and it did not help. --DIFFICULTY...

Consult for Rhinoplasty

Very nice, good bedside manner, clearly knowledgeable.

Ready for Revision Rhinoplasty with Radiated Rib - Baltimore, MD

Dr Boahene is a doctor who excels in natural looking noses. After seeing the before and after pics shown on his website I was convinced he is the one who could deliver the results I was aiming for. He is a rather conservative surgeon so if any drastic change is desired one must stress this fact to him. I gave him full liberty to decide wether or not an incision was necessary to narrow the width of my nostrils. He chose not to do it. Good call! Overall this investment was well worth it.
